Bring a touch of London’s grandeur into your home with this detailed model of the Temple Bar Monument, a striking recreation of the memorial that stands proudly outside the Royal Courts of Justice.
Designed by Sir Horace Jones, Architect and Surveyor to the City of London, the Temple Bar Monument was unveiled in 1880 to mark the historic gateway that once stood nearby. This elegant replica captures the monument’s intricate architecture and timeless symbolism.
The Temple Bar Monument marks the site of the old City of London gateway, once designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Sir Horace Jones built the memorial in 1880 as a symbolic boundary marker.
At its top sits a dragon sculpture by Charles Bell Birch, often mistaken for a griffin. It bears the shield of the City of London. Below are statues by Sir Joseph Boehm of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). They were the last royals to pass through Wren’s gate. The base shows reliefs of this royal event and other scenes from London’s history.
This model highlights every layer of the monument’s design, from the base to the dragon above.
