Classical Country House Architectural Model

This architectural model presents a classically styled country house derived from the architectural principles established at Old College, Edinburgh, one of the most significant works of late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Scottish architecture. The original scheme for Old College was conceived by Robert Adam, whose vision embodied the ideals of the Scottish Enlightenment through rational planning, strict symmetry, and a restrained yet monumental classical language. Following Adam’s death, the project was brought to completion in the nineteenth century under William Henry Playfair, whose sensitive interpretation preserved the intellectual clarity and gravitas of the original design.

The model reflects this dual architectural heritage, combining Adam’s disciplined neoclassical planning with Playfair’s assured handling of massing and civic presence. The composition is structured around a strong central axis, with balanced wings that recall the collegiate quadrangle while reimagining it as a dignified country house.
